The Lawrence Preservation Alliance (LPA) of Lawrence and Douglas County Kansas has a membership of about 200 individuals and families and is governed by an all-volunteer board of 15-20 members. An annual membership meeting is held each fall in a space of historic interest. Incorporated in 1984 as a not-for-profit organization, LPA utilizes the work of many experienced volunteers and the financial strength of its cash reserves to achieve its goals of educating and advocating to preserve the identity of Lawrence and Douglas County by saving, and celebrating, the diverse, unique places that make it special. Whether it’s a spectacular piece of architecture, a historic battlefield, a stone schoolhouse, the simple lines of a working person’s house, or a public space that holds within its walls the hopes and memories of generations, LPA seeks to recognize and preserve those built and natural environments, that contribute to the rich, vibrant culture of Lawrence and Douglas County.
It’s not just our history.
It’s our future.
The mission of Lawrence Preservation Alliance is to preserve historically significant buildings and natural environments, and to educate the community about the benefits of historic preservation.
